Ross was adopted by Willard and Vina Denham of Shumway, Arizona. His Uncle Virgil writes that "He (Ross) was always a good student and the children all liked Ross. His teachers always appreciated him since he was always an honest and a hard working boy in all things he undertook to do. My wife taught school and had Ross in class. She always appreciated his integrity and honesty and good work."
