One wonders why Charles made the decision to adopt out his three youngest children as opposed to sending them back to Kansas to live with relatives. And what about Edythe's family? Charles' father Samuel died in 1914. His mother Sarah died in 1919, just a few months over a year before Edythe died. His brother
William lived in Indiana and his sister Bertha had four children of her own and was divorced somewhere around the time that Edythe died. Edythe's older sister Matilda had died in 1912 and her brother Peter died in 1920 also. There was no family to call upon.
